The all-new Suzuki Ignis Super 1600 is based on the five-door Ignis
road car, which was revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
The reliability is very high as most of the components are carried
over from the current 3-door version. (64.3% finish in 2003 which
is the highest percentage in JWRC).
The new car is 15 centimetres longer than the car it replaces but
the biggest improvements have been made to the engine, which puts
out more power and torque than its predecessor. A lot of work has
been done to make the new unit more driveable, with a good reserve
of useable power all the way up the rev range.
A new transmission system is faster and more reliable than the preceding
version. The gearshift lever is now mounted on the steering column,
making it easier to use for the drivers. Extra refinements have been
made to the suspension, which makes the car more adaptable to the
specific demands of each rally. The 2004 car also has a wider track
than the 2003 version, again leading to better stability and handling
- especially on asphalt.
On January 22nd to 24th, Monte Carlo rally was held and the new Ignis
has achieved 4 top times in 12 special stages. It has shown a great
performance on one of the world's most difficult rally.
